We have been working on a full-length album in various ways since November and finally made it to the Living Room studio in January to record the live tracks. We dropped drums, bass, grand piano, various organs & electric pianos, trumpet, strings, and some computer sounds down to 2″ tape with Chris George and Daniel Majorie. Since I used to work at a studio we have always just recorded ourselves in the past and have developed a unique way of doing things. We decided this time to put the tracking in someone else’s hands and I, personally, couldn’t be happier with the results. It was a perfect fit. Chris and Daniel are truly pros. We can be a pain in the ass to record, but they took it in stride and brought our tracks to a whole new level of clarity and depth. Our project presented some serious technical challenges to an analog tape-based studio, but we all stuck with it and managed to get 11 songs done in a week! It should also be mentioned that they insisted on working through the project despite the sudden and tragic loss of one of their close friends. Their work ethic and professionalism made our work on the album so far a relaxed and truly enjoyable experience. If you have a band and want to make a killer record, you should seriously consider the Living Room. http://thelivingroomstudio.com/
All of the tracks recorded there have now been transferred to my home studio and we are working on a lot of the synth/computer stuff that we couldn’t squeeze into our week with Chris and Daniel. I hope to have it wrapped up and in your hands sometime this summer. We’ll keep y’all posted.
